Rogue Idea

Well, this happens time to time and its not really bothered me much before, but lately my internet has been all weird lately. like i cant access this website for frankandyvette either but now i can again.Â? then my free host decided that they werent gonna be free hosts anymore and frank had a heart attack so then i had to have one too and look for hosting all over the place.Â? i was down to media temple and site 5 but then my free host decided to still be a free host but lower the space/bandwidth they were giving away.Â? still WAY too much space and bandwidth for me to ever use anyways so that is why i havent moved my website.

anyways recently i havent been able to go into certain sites and what not.Â? i dont know it drove me crazy cause i couldnt log into my cpanel.Â? but now i can so its okay i think.Â? also i cant sign into stupid yahoo or msn messengers either. but i think i will change over to only using yahoo messenger from now on cause it says that i can talk to people who use msn also through the yahoo thing. but i dont know how to do that yet since i cant log into it today for some reason.Â? well i am starting to crank out a lot of stuff for my project now, as in the actually content being organized and put together.Â? so the ‘site building’ is done, but of course in between all the school and studying progress has been a tiny bit slow on getting the content out.Â? but i guess thats how its gonna be.

this last week i went to eat at Arirang, this korean restaurant in southwest.Â? it was pretty good but definantly overpriced like hell.Â? then there was this big i don tknow, issue on the payment and stuff for the other table, but thankfully our bill at my table was easily and evenly split pretty nicely.Â? i did have the taste of that korean meat in my mouth for like another extra dayÂ? though.Â? i think no amount of scope or toothpaste couldve gotten rid of it.Â? oh well i will go back to my studying now while waiting for frankie to come home from church.Â? hes so cute

okay so far my website does the following things (using php)

USERS: lets users sign up, log in, log out, keeps track of last log in times, checks browser stuff (i dont think this does much but its the smallest bit i can do against session hijacking i guess) .

Content Management: verify/approve members, change member status, add content, edit content, manage active members

The actual website: just one index page basically and pulls up the other stuff from url variables, can display sub categories from clicking on a category page, and can display pages from clicking on a subcategory page, displays the menu according to whether the person is logged in or out.

okay and thats all. yep, short list. But anyways that took me quite some time mostly cause I’ve been slacking off and studying for summer school so I had to take time off my project lately. Today i mostly just did the menu and displaying the summaries (which is the part i had to add on to my database scheme).

I have a lottttt of stuff to do like i want to :

• 1. figure out how i am going to try to prevent two users trying to use the same login name to log in (at the same time )
• 2. finish the subscription procedure with the email check and stuff (before i didnt have this because i dont wanna email myself everytime i tested the site)
• 3. format the output from the database so it actually looks NICE (right now its just text everywhere)
  4. add some anti spam/bots stuff around like the image checker thing. dont know how ill pull that off though.
• 5. finish with the css, styling everything and details to colors/sizes etc. will be a minimum of images though, since i cant make any that look good.
• 6. add question/help form thingy
• 7. put in details /take out details (mostly just stuff that i echo to check to see if things are working right now, i need to delete them)
• and 8. add all of the content!! (this will probably take the longest, but will be relatively easy and more relaxing than the coding part of the website.

anyways so that is a long list for me but i am done for today. tomorrow i will work more on my project.

Nothing else has really been going on, I need to study for class though and I hope I get called into work finally. Any day now. Hopefully very soon because I am incredibly broke. And I stayed home today and STILL spent a whole 35 dollars on jeans! Well my sister went out to buy them for me and so now I have to pay her back.

Alright well tomorrow I will take pictures of myself and take some measurements to put on here so that I can start keeping track of things before I get into working out at the end of this month. That way I can see if it pays off later, hehe. Thats all for tonight.

Finally free from what? MY OLD BROKEN PIECE OF CRAP CELL PHONE!!! Today I went out with my dad and basically my whole family bought new cell phones, lol. Anyways, my old one was in like ten pieces and it never worked or anything. So I’m really glad I got a new phone, its a LG VX8300, not that I know or care what that means. But its pretty new hopefully it won’t be like when I got my old phone and then two days later the entire world had the same damn thing.

Today I did my second lab practical exam and I think I did really bad on it. So yeah I NEED to do good on the next two exams which is this coming wednesday and thursday. theres so many tests I don’t even know what test is when anymore, I just assume theres a test everyday, lol.

Well besides that, I think later tonight I will work on my project again, I’m still at the menu thing, trying to make it display two different menus depending on whether or not the person is logged into their account and has access. The good thing is I got it to display the menu based on the stuff in the database, which is good. Now I just have to add even more stuff to checking if people are logged in or not. The whole log in and out thing is a pain in the butt.

Also I finally got done cleaning my messy room up. But later I gotta put up all my laundry. I am planning to spend some money on clothes soon (So hopefully I get some income from the job later this week) so I can buy some new clothes. I mostly need some basic stuff like new undies and bras, some gym/work out clothes, more khaki pants, maybe a pair of jeans or two, and some nice shirts/tank tops. Oh and some new shoes. Okay fine I need a whole lot. But yeah I am tired of looking the same always and want a whole new wardrobe, I know this will take some time (mostly cause of the money issue) but I really wanna get some nicer clothes to wear around instead of just t-shirts and jeans with tennis shoes. Plus not all of my t-shirts are very summer friendly cause theyre made of heavy cotton or just material thats thick. I need some like skimpy clothes for when its hott. Yeah I used to like avoid wearing shorts to school and stuff cause my ass would be showing but seeing how hott it is I really could care less now. Anyways so that is the plan so far. Hopefully I will be called into work this weekend. I told Linda to come and help me out to pick out some clothes since I don’t really know what the hell I’m doing. I need someone to come with me though to help me pick out stuff and give me some opinions.

Okay well today I need to put up my laundry, work on my project, and print out some stuff for class and study for my tests coming up. Also gotta vacuum the stairs and my room and schedule some stuff in my planner too. Okay the planner part is just because i’m obsessed with it cause it makes me wet! =) I think I’ll post some pictures of it later. I love my planner. Without it I can easily remember all the tasks I have to do everyday but I just love it so much and I like to keep it so I can be organized.

One thing I’m having to deal with everyday is the fact that I keep coming up with more and more things I want to add to this whole thing. More things means more time spent on coding! Of course I’ve spent a lot of time already but the last thing I really needed was extra things to add to the long list of things to do. Well the good thing is I’ve finally decided how I want my menu to look like.

I think a big drawback is that I have ..weird taste. And so I guess sometimes my website looks good to me and sometimes it looks really horrible. I’ve already gone through 4 different layouts and like 100 different logo ideas and I like the one I’m sticking with right now the most so far. But I’m going focus on getting the site to work 100% before spending more time on making it look better. Right now its pretty plain. I don’t want it to look all fancy but I do want it to look somewhat pleasing to the eye. But for now i’m leaving it the way that i last decided I wanted it to look so I can keep working on getting the site to work the way i want it to.

Well tomorrow I have school starting again sooooo that means less time to work on this. Okay well that’s all for now.

Okay so last week is obviously over by now and I finished my CMS just in time. Thankfully I’m starting to get the hang of using php and mysql together so things were getting easier towards the end. I did end up having to add one more thing to it but it wasn’t all that bad so it only took me an extra hour or so. So there now i have my CMS that does FOUR whole things!! Next thing to do is this week I need to finish my template up. Right now thinking of how I want my menu to be. I’m thinking I’ll just go with putting it all out there instead of a expanding tree thing or like a pop up menu. It’s not really that much stuff, I mean there are 5 categories and 15 subcategories so thats really only either 15 or 20 Links. I sort of wanted a tree menu before because I had the content more spread out , which would bring me to a LOT more links than that and I didn’t want it all to be all over the place.

So now that I have that decided how the menu will be I’m trying to think of what I want it to be like. Should I have it in outline form? Or should I have it in just horizontal bar image links? Orrrrrrrrr…I don’t know. Anyways that is my task today to figure out and put up a menu system! I realized that I could do this later, but I feel like I want to do it now because how am I going to test my website without being able to try to navigate through it?? Huh I used the word navigate…thats weird.

So the other day I’m sitting online (of course) and I start thinking about where I should put my website that I’m working on. Obviously having it on the web makes it susceptible to ‘dangers’ online like people stealing my ideas (okay I admit its not that great of an idea, but still). Then I’m thinking that I could put it on the domain that it’ll end up being on so then it’ll be less hassle getting it all over there later. Well after talking to John and realizing that most people don’t do this then I go check out this XAMPP thing that I saw being mentioned online before. And finally it all clicks together!! All the sudden I realize how those people putting their errors and examples up always have their stuff at “http://localhost/…” and it makes complete sense cause then all your code and files are offline and you don’t put it out into the internet until its all done!

So then I try to download it and I’m thinking 32 Mb for an installer I guess I can wait. Then it kept getting stuck and I couldn’t make it start off where it cut me offline. After one zillion million hours of trying to download this damned thing I finally have all 32 Mb of it and install it. Of course after installing it I realize I have NO idea how to use it. And apparently there are no tutorials or help things on their site, just lots of documentation about what they put it in it; basically stuff that I don’t really care about right now. It took me a few hours to figure out how to put in my backup of my mysql database into the thing and by the time I found out, I already redid the entire thing manually. Then it took me another few hours to find out where to put the files that I wanted to show up on my new little server that I downloaded.

I felt like I was trying to learn fireworks again – I search and search and search online but theres no help anywhere!

Well I finally got it all completely set up yesterday and also organized all my files again since I had to move all my things around a little bit. And now, I will go eat ice cream.

Well since I’ve gotten my template done for the site already and set up the database structure I’ve started working on my cms so I can add content and manage users of my website. What I really hate about this kind of thing is that I usually get the idea pretty well and then its always one tiny thing that messes it all up. Anyways after a small syntax error was fixed last night I finally got my cms to be able to let me view unverified users, and then pick which ones I want to verify and verify them. There is really only three things that my cms will do in the end and thats verify users, add content, and edit content. so today I’ll work on the 2nd one which is making it add content into the database. So far my cms looks like this :

This is usually how most of my websites look like when I’m working on them. This is how my template looks like too. Except that one is even worse because there are three boxes on the right column and all of the boxes on the page are different random colors. When I make the css I usually just make up a random 6 digit code for the colors so it turns out that way. This time though I decided to make it all one color (since the template/layout was much easier, I knew everything would be in its place so I didn’t have to test it). At first I was like ewwww mango color. But now I think I kinda like it =) So thats what my cms looks like its just one box with the links on the left, one in the middle with stuff going on and one on the right that says login or welcome.
While im working on my cms all these ideas keep coming to me for other websites so I just jot them down and then hopefully I can finish this one and if its okay then I’ll move on to doing other things. But for now all my focus is on this (yeah sounds like I’m doing something big but actually its just a medium project and im a beginner, hehe). i’m kind of suprised that I got this far because this is the furthest I’ve ever been with doing an ‘online’ project having to do with websites. I mean I had my Britney Spears website before but that was…4 or 5 years ago now and I don’t even remember the url so I’ll just forget about that. So I am determined to finish this no matter what! AND S want to finish this before school starts again. Since I realize I am in a little bit of a time crunch (okay a month and a half seems like a long time but with other things going on that S want to do S still need some time management) S made sort of a schedule with some mini deadlines to go by:

• End of this week : Finish CMS (July 8th)
• End of next week: finish template (the structure is done but I need to put in php to pull correct content in on each page), write and put up public content July 15
• July 16-August 7 : put up all content
• August 7- August 20 : Finish tweaking things and adding last things of content.
• August 21st: finish tweaking things and making sure maintenance of site will be smooth.
• August 22nd: celebrate by letting myself buy nice school supplies for the fall semester.

Now the content will take a long time because I have to organize it and make it all sound good and what not. But for the most part I know what I’m going to write I just need to organize it right and add things here and there to it. My goal is to be ahead of the schedule so I can give myself some time incase something crazy happens or incase I have to study for my class a few days or something. Okay well thats all for now. Today I vacuumed the house cause my mom insisted even though I vacuum like every two days. Tomorrow we’re having my family over for July 4th so that means good food to look foward too!

This is my all time favorite ‘doctor’ joke and its from FRIENDS. Basically the character Phoebe is trying to get pregnant and is asking all these questions and the doctor always says they don’t know, and then she says “Wow. You guys really don’t know anything.” Okay fine maybe its not a ‘joke’ but it still cracks me up everytime.

Well i am finally done making my site template and login system after a long time of wondering whats wrong with it.Â? then i was going to start working on my little cms thing but i realized i couldnt add any content through it because i didnt have my database set up.Â? so friday night i made my databases and yesterday i finished planning them out and i made a ‘hard copy’ on paper so i dont have to log into phpmyadmin everytime i dont remember what a column was named or something.Â? okay so today i’m going to make my little cms finally and hopefully things will go somewhat more smoothly than my previous steps.

besides that i’m not really doing much else today.Â? yesterday i finally called into chase bank and did my balance transfer so now i dont have to worry about that. well i still do because i need to check to see if it goes through, the guy said it will take 3 to 5 days though.Â? at least i was able to do it last night at around 6 cause they are answering phones 24/7 which is good.Â? oh yeah and i guess i should study for my test tomorrow that i shouldve had last wednesday already.Â? its a good thing we dont have our lab practical until this wednesday though because i still need to look ata few more things which i’ll do tomorrow in class.Â? ohh and today i’m supposed to like clean up and stuff for guests coming over on tuesday but i think i’ll just do that tomorrow. plus theres nothing to clean everything is already clean cause i do this like every 3 days already.Â? well thats all that i can think of that i’ll do today so i guess ill get started now

Well last night I was having some trouble dealing with cookies and sessions and setting them up and what not. Well my php phrasebook doesnt explain much (obviously, since its only a phrasebook) but I needed a more step by step approach since never dealth with this kind of thing before. So i went to the schools library catalog search and it was finally working (it hasnt been for a little while for me now) and found out that the book that i want is available for students to log into and see as an online e-book version! Now this is exactly why I love our library, they have almost virtually everything you could possibly think of, and they probably keep getting thousands more every single year (i’ve actually seen carts with hundreds of new books coming in plenty of times). Plus i love that they have a big selection of the books online so i can see them from home. Now the part where im torn is that i’ve been wanting to buy this book since it helped me learn a lot about php and mysql but now i dont know if i reallywant to buy it since i can read it online any time i want to (before the problem was i cant check it out for very long so i wanted to have my own copy, plus they only had the 1st edition on hard copy and there was no 2nd edition). So not only is the book i want online, but its also the second edition which is even better. It would cost 18 dollars, so like a little over 20 dollars for tax and shipping if i was going to buy iit off amazon buutttttttt i just started getting back on my feet a tiny bit financially and i dont want to bring myself down into being dead broke so fast. I guess ill just use the online copy for a while and then if i still want it later i can always order it. *sigh*

Yesterday was my 3 years and 5 month anniversary with my Frankie! He is so handsome =)

While brainstorming about what to buy my friend Chau for her birthday I decided I could get her some nice martini glasses since I can’t exactly buy her a drink yet (she turned 21). Well while looking at some online I decided that I’m going to start my own glass collection. It’ll mostly be martini glasses so far but I’ll probably get some nice shot glasses and other types too. I also got two of the same kind I bought her so now I have two to begin with. Of course when I decided I was going to start my little collection I didn’t think about how expensive these were going to be. I mean 15 dollars for a cup isn’t exactly the greatest deal in the world but I guess they’re nice and I like them so oh well! And 15 dollars is about the cheapest martini glasses that I’ve seen around (and there aren’t a lot of them around that are that decent of a price). The one that I really really want is 80 dollars but I’ll have to save up a bit for it and get it later.

Tonight I went to Phat Ky which is on Wilcrest and 59 and almost an hour away from me (less on the way home since there was little to no traffic). Anyways the food was alright but I was a little dissapointed with the noodles since those I would consider an “easy” dish I sorta expected they would do better than that. I after eating, taking a lot of pictures, making kissing gestures at Vivian from the next table, letting Chau sit in my lap while being groped by Vivian and making WAY too many jokes about boobs we finally got the bill and took an extra 15 minutes to decide how to split it. They decided to go to a karaoke place afterward but i went home instead. As soon as I was close to my house Chau calls to tell me she didn’t go either so that sucks cause she didn’t get to eat her cake since they brought it there.

As for my little project well so far I’ve made some progress with the main template for the site and also the sign up page works and everything adds to the database correctly which is suprising. I think tomorrow I’m going to set up the databse for the content and also make some ‘fake’ content too so I can test on. I found Lipsum.com (I think thats the address I don’t remember exactly right now) which is this website that I’m gonna use to make some of my fake content (which will all be the same except different lengths and titles so I can tell if the content is what I want it to be or not. Besides that I haven’t gotten too much further cause I’ve also been reading for my biology practical on Monday. I think I’ll do okay but I haven’t really spent enough time looking at the slides so hopefully reading and looking at the pictures in the book will let me still do okay. Well I’m tired out now so I think I’ll go to bed and wake up early tomorrow.
