Rogue Idea

I’m pretty sure everyone in the Houston area knows about Comcast Cable TV by now. We used to have TimeWarner Cable and their astronaut guy in the commercials saying it was the best. Well, I think Comcast bought them out or something, then made the astronaut promote Comcast instead. I don’t know what their internet is like but Frank has their cable tv and it is pretty nice with all the features and everything. They have a couple different Comcast Cable Deals that you can get, I’m not sure what Frank has but since he worked for them I think he got some extra stuff for free or something like some premium channels.

Besides saying how “Comcastic” the Comcast Cable Offers are, the astronaut probably has been turned into their local mascot. One thing that drove me nuts when they first switched was that I couldn’t find the stupid TV guide channel. I think for about a week I couldn’t find it all and just gave up. Luckily most of the channels stayed the same numbers so that I could still know where to find what I wanted to find. Anyways the other day by the mall I saw the first Comcast office around here! It was in a TINY office place next to office depot and they had all the signs about digital cable and phone and internet service. Didn’t look like they had much in there but I guess most people probably sign up for this type of thing online or through the phone now. Plus they got a whole bunch of accounts just from taking over Time Warner. Ah well their marketing seems to have worked since my sister said something was “Comcastic” yesterday. I would switch to try them out, but I don’t really feel like doing all the work to get that done.

okay after like 7 hours all morning freaking out and studying my ass off, i txt tony to see if we need a scantron and he tells me we canceled our test today. ahh, now that doesnt mean i wont have the test, it just means i’ll have it on wednesday. and i really dont know what to make of this news because now i have 1 test per day for the next three days! I should probably continue to study but after freaking out all morning, i’m taking a break.  which is a good thing because as soon as i checked my email just now i found more linkworth offers!! so yay for that.  i’ll be getting at least 250 dollars from them at the beginning of october now which i desperately need.  since my credit card that i want to get rid of soon only has 400 dollars left on it, 250 would be great so i can use it to take a huge chunk out of that debt and plus frankie said he’ll help me a little bit too if he can so hopefully i will be able to cancel that card by the end of next month!

Now, i wish i didn’t have to cancel them since how long you have a credit card and good history with them probably goes into your credit history. but what is the point of keeping a card that i’m never gonna use again?  the only reason why i’m even paying it off now is because my 0% is over.  not only that but i got a new one that will offer me 0 % for a year, and 9.x% after that when this current card putting me up at 27.99% after my intro rate is over!

besides that i’m pretty surprised that i’m getting stuff off linkworth so that makes me happy.  however, somehow i’m stilling getting little bits of adsense money from my test blog even though i haven’t updated in a while.  i plan to later tonight though so i will probably make a short post over there.   it’ll probably be about something random but oh well - a post is still a post, lol.  ah okay well hopefully i will keep getting linkworth offers, lol.  maybe after i get my first one people are more likely to pick me since they see i’ve already done one or something.  well, more later.

Well I was planning to study a lot today. I didn’t. Instead I spent all my time cleaning around the house and vacuuming (especially the stairs!). I went outside this morning and there was no webs. Then 2 hours later I come out and theres a HUGE web again. So I burn off one strand at a time and make the little spider fall. Then I was going to home depot so I can buy some gloves to use (since all of the ones my parents have are gross cause they leave them outside) and I didn’t have my wallet!

I went all the way to the restaurant to look for it and it wasn’t there. Then I come back home and I find it in the futon blanket. So finally after that I go to home depot, got my gloves, laundry basket, and stud finder with batteries. Came home, and I finally went out there, I threw away that nasty rug outside and I cut down the laundry lines (which were acting as a prime thing for the spiders to make their web off of) and threw away a bunch of gross stuff and leaves laying around. Then I bought this Bug Free Backyard Concentrate and I had to connect it to the hose and spray it.  Only problem was I couldn’t get the hose to reach all the way to the other end of the  yard.  So there’s a small part that wasn’t sprayed on.  It smelled pretty gross which is probably why it said to keep people and pets away until it dries.  Just now I went out there and the smell is pretty much almost gone and I did not see one crazy orb weaver outside so that’s good.  I’ll have to see if it really works though by keeping an eye out for a whole week.  It is supposed to repel insects, bugs, non poisonous spiders (those stupid orb weavers!) and other things.  I’m really excited cause I want my yard to be bug free, haha.

After that I came in and vacuumed and swept up the whole place and cleaned the game room and desk from all the clutter out here.  Before I got my laptop I remember I always used the desktop computer but it was never that cluttered and crazy.  Anyways, for the rest of tonight I will finish up some laundry and tomorrow I have GOT to sit down and study!

Well I know it won’t be any time soon, but Frank will probably get a new house sometime and I always run into things that I think I want to buy him for the house. I found this site that sells nautical gifts and other related things. Basically they have all sorts of replicas of all things nautical related. Not that Frank is really into that or anything but some of the stuff I think he would really like, like the model ships they have. They have these that are pretty big (around 30 inches long!) and they are really detailed models and hand made. The prices are a few hundred for each ship, but I’m pretty sure this would go nicely maybe in a living room or something or maybe just wherever there might be a space for it. I might not get it right away since if and when he gets a new place it’ll probably take us a few months of living like ’sims’ who don’t ‘cheat’, haha. But once we have some nice furniture I might get us a model from there.

The website also has other nautical decor too like these models of fish. Yeah they have models and sculptures of fish. Now I probably won’t get any of those but they look pretty nice too and would probably be something nice for a seafood restaurant or someone who loves to fish. There’s a pretty cool shark looking one but I can’t imagine where I would put that. Ah well I guess I will stop shopping online now and go back to studying a little more before bed tonight.

Yay!  Well last night I was at the library about to wait the normal 3 hours between my 1st class ending at 2:30 and my second (and last) class starting at 5:30.  Well Gordon calls me and suggests I go home because of some tropical storm Herberto.   I check online, and yep there’s a big storm right on Galveston in the map.  I decided to just ignore it and stay for class since my exam is on Monday and I wanted to see what he would say about the exam the class before.  I told my sister to go home early since it would be raining a lot.  Well at about 4 pm the library comes on their speakers with an announcement that they will be closing along with the university due to the storm predicted to come at Houston.  The school will not open till noon today!

So last night I went home early, and today I check and thankfully, they did not change their plans at the last minute - even though the storm turned out to completely miss us.  So I didn’t have to wake up early and go to biochem lab today!  Now, technically I still have school today at 1 pm but I am not going to drive there just for one class, plus the exam was cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday already.

So yay, I don’t have school today!  Even though I don’t have school I’m sort of taking this as extra study time though this weekend since I will now have 3 tests this coming week.  Oh and I still haven’t gone out to buy myself a lime for my biochem class yet.

A while ago I made a little PHP thing to make myself flash cards.  Now before when I checked the printing it was very close to being aligned, yesterday when I used it at school and printed, they were no where near aligned (front and back).  So I posted on sitepoint about it, and I got nothing useful.  So now, I’m back on figuring out what the hell to do about that.  I’ve thought about converting it to a pdf file to print but I feel like thats sort of an overkill so hopefully I can figure something else out to format it to print in the same place on both sides. Right now, its printing a little closer to the left side than the right side on both sides, so that its not aligned completely.  Agh okay I’m going to go clean my room up a bit and study.

Well like I said I found a lot of different Video Conversion things in my quest to burn a dvd. I’ve even thought about playing it and re recording it off my screen but I thought the quality would be halved. Anyways you know those tape to dvd converters they have? Well yeah we’ve tried those before and lets just say the quality isn’t really top notch. But then again, I think maybe we just used a bad machine.

Okay so I found this place that can convert 8mm film to dvd , which surprisingly I actually have a lot of from my really old camera. They have a website that tells you about it at www.videoconversionexperts.com. This is great because then I don’t have to lug film around (not that it is going anywhere, but clearing up space is always good). Plus I can put it on the computer and make sure I can keep it or back it up whenever and still have some sort of hard copy to keep. They also do film transfer which is like film to dvd. Now the thing that doesn’t make sense is that they have different levels to choose from and the first two are the cheapest but they don’t improve the quality at all. In fact, the first one says the quality will be reduced! I guess if you were really desperate and had no money (although, if you had no money you probably shouldn’t be worrying yourself with converting film or 8mm film to dvd) you could choose the lowest ones. But obviously if I wanted to do this I’d probably just choose the highest one and let them make it better to get it over with. They charge anywhere from 12 to 45 cents per foot though and honestly I have no idea how many ‘feet’ of film I might have. It’s mostly old stuff from my parents.

Anyways I’ll probably ask my parents if they want to convert anything so I’m saving the address here in case I need it later. Plus their samples look pretty good and it would be nice to move on and away from some of the old tape and film we have.

Well this week i have my first test. Sooooo I’m not really excited but I’m not like stressed either (probably will be next week when i have two more). Today we had another speaker in class and he actually graduated from the same program so that was encouraging to see. I have tried to keep up with most of my classes but the class I’m probably doing the worst in right now i human genetics just because I havent read or done anything for that class at all yet. all my other classes I’ve at least read the material that we’ve covered so far. I need to study for my entrepeneurship class though because i have an exam this thursday. I really don’t know whats going to be asked on the exam, but i heard the tests were supposed to be really easy. i’m supposed to go buy a scantron for it too tomorrow.

Not much else at school has been going on. except that i have decided i am not gonna spend anymore money there. its costing me too much already and i’m not going to buy any food there. i’ll just bring my own food. …or starve and wait till i get home. lol. which is probably going to happen a few times when i forget to bring food.

Oh actually, I’ve been trying to figure out how to convert media files and burn them on dvd. I finally converted with this WinAvi thing.  At first I thought it was pretty impossible and thought my laptop might not be strong enough to handle it.  But the other programs were really slow and this did it in 30 minutes (huge improvement from the estimate time givent o me by other programs that were in DAYS).  Sooooo Finally i found something that works with converting rmvb to other formats like mpeg and avi.  Okay so I burned  a dvd with  my test clilp in avi.  for some reason it plays on my laptop as a dvd but it wont play in my little dvd player.  so im gonna try it out on some other dvd players and see if it works or if i need to try a few other things to see whats wrong.  I’m hoping it does.  one problem is though each of my files or videos is 45 minutes, each dvd says it holds 80 minutes….  so thats kind of a waste if i can only use half of each dvd.  therefore…. I will try to cut out the beginnings and ends where theres credits and stuff to squish it in.  lol.   orrrr….i dont know how much a blu ray disc can hold, but I was kinda wishing I had one of those now cause then I could put more on it.  Even though, it would be way too much money to buy all that when dvds are cheaper now.

So after like weeks of searching for a converting program I finally found it.  On the way I found a few other stuff like other video converting things, which I’ll have to post about later cause I’m too lazy to look it up now.  And also sometimes I would get results about converting from all other formats EXCEPT rmvb, or from tape to dvd, or converters that were just wayyyyy too slow.   So I’m glad I sorta got that problem figured out.  Now I just gotta make the dvd playable on dvd players.  Or actually, I think i need VCD player, which I dont think I have.

Oh yeah, my CTR increased by ONE whole number percent on adsense!!  So my test blog is working out pretty well but like i said before, I am still working on ideas to bring traffic that will bring my money in.  I signed it up with linkworth, text-link-ads, and forsalebypublisher.  I dont think i’m going to use text-link-ads though because 50/50 is pretty steep plus forsalebypublisher.com doesn’t charge any commission.  Linkworth does, but its 70/30 so thats still much better than 50/50.  so that is my blog stuff for my other blog i have set up.  the good thing is hopefully I will be able to get some adsense check soon.  And I’m debating on payperpost for the blog or not.  Because since the other blog is new, It doesn’t have anything and will only be able to get crappy posts for like 5 bucks each.  I know I need money, but I’d rather spend time working on stuff thats gonna make more than 5 dollars.  anyways thats all for now.

Well, I went to see Frank last weekend for a few days.  Too bad I couldn’t stay longer but maybe we’ll be able to meet for longer at the end of this year or something.  Anyways we went to the zoo and went around the capital.  We went to see Rush Hour 3 too like in the middle of the night when I was there.  Anyways here are some pictures:
